Donor Engagement and Resource Mobilisation
CGHD connects governments, institutions, and donors around shared priorities, helping unlock and direct financing towards the health and development challenges where it can have the greatest impact. This includes work alongside civil society organisations to engage countries whose economic growth has outpaced their global health financing contributions, encouraging them to expand their role as donors. Through country visits and convened dialogues – grounded in close analysis of trends and opportunities – we make the case for health investment that extends beyond a country’s own borders and health system, helping secure the political and financial commitments needed to broaden the donor base.
Sustainable and Innovative Financing
We advance new and blended financing mechanisms — from debt swaps to innovative instruments — that strengthen domestic and international resourcing for global health. Our work centers on debt-for-health swaps: identifying creditor nations open to redirecting debt repayments toward health investment, and brokering the diplomatic groundwork needed to move these deals forward on behalf of selected countries. This builds on our Executive Director’s appointment as Africa CDC’s Special Advisor on Debt Swaps, positioning CGHD as a trusted intermediary between creditors and the countries seeking to benefit. While health remains our primary focus, we see natural potential to extend this model to other sectors, such as nutrition – in service of stronger financing for global and regional public goods.
Partnership Development
CGHD builds and sustains relationships across governments, multilateral organisations, and civil society, creating the coalitions needed to move health and development priorities forward. This work is rooted in diplomatic, trust-based engagement — direct dialogue and technical exchange with decision-makers — rather than public campaigning or advocacy. These partnerships are what turn policy positions into coordinated, funded action, not just aligned agendas, by connecting the right expertise with the political access needed to deliver on shared priorities.
